The Robert Shaw Center, also known as the S.T.E.A.M. Center, is a $5.4 million, 23,900 square foot building which houses the FIRST® teams of Katy:
CRyptonte is one of the 5 teams that builds at the Robert Shaw Center, along with teams 2882 Nuts n Boltz of Morton Ranch High School, Team 4639 RoboSpartan form Seven Lakes High School, Team 5416 TaRDIS of Taylor High School, and Team 5427 Tompkins Robotics/Steel Talons from Tompkins High School. Each team is designated a room that contains all the necessary tools and equipment needed to build a robot, all which is generously donated by Katy ISD. The Center also contains a 25 by 54 foot practice field which allows the teams to test out their robots and a plasma cutter that is to be used for the final parts fabrication.
The Robert Shaw Center was built in order to help spread interest in the fields of Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M) . Meaning it isn't just used for robotics. It has a variety of uses, while it is mostly used as a build site for the FRC teams the RSC can be also used for banquets and large group teaching, and with its arsenal of tools and machinery it can also function as a build site for student engineers.
